Track Mounted Sawing
Case Study 1
Track
sawing for the whole world to see – cutting along the River Themes
embankment right outside the New Modern Tate Gallery at the point where
London’s newest river crossing bridge (the infamous wobbly bridge)
meets the Southbank.
The
project as a whole required the old concrete façade to be cut back
in order that a new handrail system front could be in-stalled.
The
first operation was to carry out vertical section cuts at critical points
through the up-stand, which would form block sections of concrete that the
site crane could lift out. When these were done a horizontal cut was done
below the pavement level this gave the client a neat surface to work with.
The
horizontal cutting was done working off of scaffolding directly over the
Thames; at high tides we were only inches away from the waterline.

On
one section of the works sheet piling from the original construction had
been left in place and concrete poured over and around it, still with our
state of the art track mounted diamond saw cutting systems this posed no
threat to us.
