Forming Large Singular Holes to Receive Piles

Forming Large Singular Holes to Receive PilesThe task here was to diamond drill 600mm diameter holes to depths of up to 3000mm, as you can see from the image shown some of the pile locations were place directly over area that contained heavy steel grillages, this was not expected but was dealt with, with the help of our various diamond suppliers.

Forming Large Singular Holes to Receive PilesHere is an example of Hydraulic Drill Rigs working in tandem the core diameters are 600mm, these were to go down to a depth of 3000mm.

In order to get the cores out we had to pre-drill a 127mm diameter hole on the perimeter of the 600mm insert the hydraulic burster and snap the core by bursting it at it’s base, once the core had been snapped it was lifted out by using the old fashioned block & tackle.

Forming Large Singular Holes to Receive PilesIn total there were 28No of these holes required for the pile locations and because our drilling rigs were able to get in the building and drill the holes through the basement slab well before the piling rigs were due it helped immensely to keep the project on programme.
